Bah Humbug Guest Designer - Week 7

I have been looking forward as well as feeling somewhat nervous to this weeks challenge over at Bah Humbug  the theme
CD cards - either made using a CD or a CD on them
I have been wracking my brain as to how I could achieve making a card using a CD - I have only used a CD once before on a birthday card and that was some 6 yrs back. I saw a beautiful card on
Hazel's Blog and I immediately thought it would be perfect for adding a CD onto the main base card. I contacted Hazel to ask her how she created her card, Hazel very kindly offered cut me some cards in different colourways on her Cricut for me to have a play with - Thank you so very much Hazel for all your help. I then came down with Flu, my brain so fuzzy and feeling pretty crook; ideas were thin on the ground. My initial thoughts of altering the CD using alcohol inks to create a 'background' did not work so it was onto plan B .. wait a minute there isn't a 'plan B' Anyway,  after a rummage in my RS sundries box I unearthed some UTEE - after 3 layers of UTEE the CD was looking very pretty, I very much liked the texture. I don't think I heated the UTEE enough as I could not get a RS image to show - so decided to leave it as it was, only swiping it over with a dye inkpad and some krylon pen to highlight the texture of the UTEE. My next stumbling block was how do I add 'elments' to the CD - I will admit I struggled and it was a while before any inspiration hit. I could only think of something '3D' maybe decoupage or similar - I am no good with anything like that so I ended using several elements from a couple of medallion RS I have. I am not 100% happy with the finished main element, it might of been better to print off some of the very pretty mandalas on the net or maybe added some glitter to the snowflakes. Just cannot put my finger on it what I don't like about it. I have made it possible so the CD can be removed from the base card for it to be used as a hanging decoration. On the underside of the CD it has also been given the UTEE treatment, I attached a very large flat backed pearl button over the 'spindle hole' I tried adding other elements, gems and such like but it just looked too crowded so I decided it was best left, told myself to stop faffing!

Thank you to the Bah Humbuggers for a fabulous challenge theme. I am very much looking forward to seeing what ideas challenge participants come up with using a CD.

  2. Carole this is really gorgeous - as soon as I saw it I couldn't wait to read up on how you had created it. The texture and the colours are just fabulous. I really can't see why you are not happy with it as it is a really special card.
Love the idea of making it so that it can be removed and used as a hanging ornament.

  5. Lovely card Carole using the UTEE...you asked how I had done mine using Alcohol inks....just keep dabbing your colours on and then blend with the blending fluid. It does take a while to do but gives you fabulous results....hope this helps you.
Any problems email me from my blog.

  6. Thank you so much Anne. I did think of using Blending Fluid but I didn't and I guess it was my downfall - not being patient enough. I am going to give it a go again Anne ..

  20. Hi Carole,
I was positive I had already commented about this wonderful card - but obviously was mistaken as I can't see it. Anyway, I love the texture you have created with the Utee and that you have used a circular card to match the CD shape. The pretty decorated disc being removable is an added bonus for whoever is lucky enough to receive it.
